Week 32 (April 27 – May 1, 2009)

I’m gone Monday at the final elementary Matchwits competition of the season.

The Medieval Feast was an enormous success due entirely to the legion of  remarkable volunteers.  Particularly impressive were the medieval games the Room Moms put together.  Spectacular.

No progress reports went home today.

Your kids will become 5th graders in 20.5 school days.

Math 65. Problem sets 122 – 126 will be due Friday. They will test on Friday.

Shurley Grammar. Students will be classifying patterns 1 – 3 sentences.

The Spalding Method. Phonograms 27 – 44 will be reviewed this week.

Rewriting. Samples of work, both in progress and completed, will continue to be sent home.

All testing in my classes will occur this Friday as follows:

  • Daily Oral Language (DOL). There are no more weekly practice sentences or tests (i.e., they will no longer test on the sentences they edit each morning in class). They will, however, continue to have a DOL quiz every Friday.
  • Spelling. They will test this week on their individualized spelling lists from last week.
  • Vocabulary.
  • Vocabulary words
  • Open Court. The reading comprehension exam will be comprised of short answer and multiple choice questions. It is always an “open book” test.
  • The Voyage of the Mayflower (a study guide is available online, but no story)
