Week 30 (April 13 – 17, 2009)

Progress reports for some of Mr. T’s classes went home today (it was a busy weekend).

Your kids will become 5th graders in 29.5 school days.

Math 65. Problem sets 116 – 120 will be due Friday. They will test on Friday.

Shurley Grammar. Students will be classifying pattern 3 sentences.

The Spalding Method. Phonograms 45 – 70 will be reviewed this week.

Rewriting. Samples of work, both in progress and completed, will continue to be sent home. They’ll be finishing a piece about last week’s Open Court selection, “Koko’s Kitten.”

All testing in my classes will occur this Friday as follows:

  • Daily Oral Language (DOL). There are no more weekly practice sentences or tests (i.e., they will no longer test on the sentences they edit each morning in class). They will, however, continue to have a DOL quiz every Friday.
  • Spelling. They will test this week on their individualized spelling lists.
  • Vocabulary.
  • Vocabulary words
  • Open Court. The reading comprehension exam will be comprised of short answer and multiple choice questions. It is always an “open book” test.
  • Louise Braille: The Boy Who Invented Books for the Blind (a study guide is available online)
