Week 1 (August 23-25, 2006)

What a busy week! After school supplies were unpacked, introductions were made by the 24 fourth graders and myself. Sophie Giblette is new to Legacy Academy this year–make sure to say, “Hello.”

We spent the majority of our time this week reviewing procedures, both non-academic (e.g., handwashing techniques and passing silently in the hallways) and academic (e.g., proofreading markings). Time spent now on these procedures will hopefully foster a yearlong classroom environment conducive to learning. Additional procedures will be introduced next week.

Preliminary ability-grouping assessments were made in spelling and mathematics. These groups will be formalized later.

Aside from the Friday flooding at the school and a lightning strike at my home, it was a terrific start to the new academic year.
